Deceased Pets & Livestock

For callers reporting pets or farm animals that have passed away at home, private property, etc.

You will need to make your own arrangements for pets or livestock that have passed away.

There are several options:

  1. You may wish to select a private service provider to cremate or bury the body. Options may be listed through online search, or you can see if a local veterinary office will make a recommendation. (We are unable to make recommendations)

  2. Residents in unincorporated Hillsborough County may bury the animal if they own the property. It will need to be buried at least 2 feet deep. For your safety and to protect any buried lines from damage, you need to call 811 before digging.

  3. If you’re a customer of Hillsborough County’s trash and recycling services, you may double-bag and place the body in your disposal roll cart.

  4. If you are a resident within the city of Tampa, Temple Terrace, or Plant City, we recommend contacting your City government to see if they have other advice or instructions.
